Analog Dark

In the summer of 2022, I felt compelled to look beyond digital photography and uncover the elusive mysteries of shooting on film. I shot primarily with Kodak T-Max rolls, long expired film — some by as many as fifteen years — stored away in cellars or tucked into the backs of refrigerators. The experience was radically different feeling from digital photography. What captivated me most in film photography was the pursuit of freedom — a yearning to flow in harmony with the rhythms of nature and the vibrant pulse of urban life. Light, whether spilling from artificial sources or streaming directly from the sun, took on an almost sacred importance when captured on film. I often embrace the challenge of imperfect conditions, photographing in the dim haze of fog, the quiet shadows of twilight, or even directly into the sun’s defiant glare.
