Waking Dreams
"Waking Dream" is an early series based on movie-like, narrative, storytelling photography that I was experimenting with at the beginning of my visual journey. In psychology, a waking dream is a type of hallucination that occurs when a person is drifting off to sleep. Between the states of REM dreaming and partial wakefulness, the deep subconscious sneaks into the dream.
A waking dream is often associated with vivid, surreal imagery and sensations; it can also manifest as a negative, frightening, nightmarish experience. This dreamscape cuts into human consciousness like a real knife—we hear a scream, see drama, and trace night running through the pictures. Disturbing remote perspectives are interspersed with outspoken close-ups. The night passage leads into the dark, visceral depths of the forest. A kind of resolution and solace—a quiet culmination at the end of a dramatically tense series.
